Privacy policy — Accessibility & Contrast Checker
Last updated: 29 September 2026
The short version
This extension is free. It collects nothing, stores nothing about you, and sends nothing, with no exceptions: it makes no network requests at all. There is no payment, no licence key and no email address. There is no server. There is no account. There are no analytics.
What the extension does with page data
When you click the icon, it runs an accessibility check on the page you are currently looking at. The check itself is done by axe-core, an open-source rules engine (Deque Systems, MPL-2.0), and it runs inside the page, in your browser. The results are shown in the popup and, if you ask for an export, written to a file on your machine. Nothing about the page is transmitted anywhere.
The extension makes no network requests. Everything in it is free, so there is no licence key to check and no payment provider to contact.
The extension does not read any page until you click it, and it only ever reads the tab you are on.
What is stored, and where
One thing is kept in your browser's local extension storage:
- Your preference for whether best-practice rules are included in a scan.
That is all. No email address, no licence key, nothing about you. It lives on your machine and is not readable by us. Clearing the extension's data or uninstalling it removes it.
Corrections, kept rather than deleted. On 28 September 2026 an independent reviewer found that a paid-version licence record would also have kept the buyer's email address, which this page did not list; that was removed. On 29 September 2026 the paid version itself was switched off: the extension is now free, so it keeps no licence record at all. It had not been published before either change.
Payments
There are none. Everything in the extension is free. If that ever changes, this page will say so — and say exactly what is stored and sent — before the change ships.
What we never do
- We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal or browsing data.
- We do not use analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or advertising.
- We do not use anything read from a page for any purpose other than showing you the accessibility results you asked for.
Permissions, and why each one exists
- activeTab — to read the tab you are on, only after you click.
- scripting — to run the accessibility rules inside that tab. The rules have to see the page as rendered, including anything the page's own JavaScript built, and this is the only way to do that.
- storage — to keep your one preference on your machine.
- downloads — to write an exported report to your downloads folder.
Changes
If this ever changes — in particular, if anything read from a page ever needs to reach a server, or a paid version is introduced — this page will be updated before the change ships, and the store listing's data disclosures will be updated with it.
